Deadly crash: Anthony Joshua’s driver arraigned in court, granted N5m bail

Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver of a Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) allegedly involved in a fatal road traffic accident that killed two trainers of boxing giant, Anthony Joshua, was on Friday arraigned by the Ogun State Police Command before a Sagamu Magistrate Court

Adeniyi, 46, was charged before the court for offences including dangerous driving causing death, contrary to Section 5(1) of the Federal Highway Act, Cap F:135, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, as applicable in Ogun State, according to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.

Other counts are reckless and negligent driving, contrary to Section 6(1) of the same Act; driving without due care and attention causing bodily harm and damage to property, contrary to Section 7(1); and driving without a valid National Driver’s Licence, contrary to Section 10(1) of the Federal Highway Act.

Joshua who was in Nigeria for the Christmas holiday with his strength-conditioning coach and personal trainer, Sina Ghami and Latz, respectively, was involved in a ghastly accident at Makun inward Sagamu, along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, on December 27, 2025.

The Lexus SUV driven by Adeniyi was reported to have rammed into a stationary truck, leading to the death of Sina and Latz on the spot, while Joshua sustained injury.

Joshua was later discharged from the hospital on Wednesday evening after doctors confirmed that he was clinically fit to continue his recovery at home.

Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle was brought to the court on Friday after the completion of investigations by the police

The court, however, granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦5 million with two sureties.

Adeniyi was remanded in custody pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions. The case was adjourned to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings.
