Engineers India Limited (EIL) has signed a $350 million contract with Dangote Refinery to serve as project management consultant (PMC) and engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) consultant for the facility’s expansion.

The Indian engineering consultancy firm confirmed in a recent statement that it partnered with the Dangote Group on the 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) refinery commissioned in 2024.

“Believing in EIL’s Engineering and Project Management excellence, Dangote Group has once again joined hands with EIL in this endeavor and has signed a Contract Agreement of value more than $350 Million to engage EIL as PMC and EPCM Consultant for this Project,” the statement read.

The expansion will increase production capacity from 650,000 bpd to 1.4 million bpd, according to Dangote Group founder Aliko Dangote, who announced the plans on October 26. As part of the upgrade, the refinery will add a second processing train capable of producing Euro VI grade fuels.

EIL said the refinery also plans to expand its polypropylene production from 830 kilo tonnes per annum (KTPA) to 2.4 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) by revamping the existing polypropylene unit and installing an additional 1.2 MMTPA unit.

The refinery will also scale up production for a world-scale 750 kTPA UOP Oleflex Unit to supplement propylene feed to the polypropylene plant.

“The latest expansion further reinforces Nigeria’s mission to become a regional hub for refined petroleum products and petrochemicals,” EIL noted in the statement.

Once completed, the expansion will make Dangote Refinery the world’s largest petroleum refinery, boosting fuel production in Africa, reducing reliance on imports, and enhancing regional energy security.

“This Contract is a strong affirmation of the trust reposed in EIL’s capabilities to deliver projects of exceptional scale and complexity,” the company added.

The project positions Nigeria as a key player in the global petrochemical and refined fuel markets, while signaling continued collaboration between Nigerian industry leaders and international engineering firms.
