The federal government has commenced the dualisation of the Ibadan–Ijebu Ode road to improve movement between Oyo and Ogun states and unlock more economic opportunities across the South-West.
Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, said the project was designed to improve inter-state connectivity, cut travel time and reduce road accidents while creating better conditions for trade and investment.
Speaking on the project, Goronyo described the corridor as strategically important because of its links to major communities and its role in supporting commercial activities in the region.
He said the road upgrade was part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places infrastructure development at the centre of efforts to strengthen the economy and improve citizens’ welfare.
“The central train of development is moving fast under our progressive banner,” the minister said.
According to him, the dualisation would deliver significant benefits to residents and businesses along the corridor by easing congestion and improving the movement of people, goods and services.

Goronyo said farmers and businesses would particularly benefit from improved transportation, as agricultural produce and other commercial goods would be moved more easily between the two states and other parts of the country.
He also said the project would create opportunities for employment and stimulate investment in communities along the route.
The minister commended the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for his leadership in driving critical road projects across the country.
He also praised the Oyo and Ogun state governments, traditional rulers, contractors, engineers and other stakeholders for their cooperation in getting the project underway.
Goronyo assured Nigerians that the Ministry of Works would continue to work with state governments and other stakeholders to ensure that road projects were delivered efficiently and sustainably.
He said the Federal Government remained committed to expanding and rehabilitating the national road network to boost economic activity, improve national integration and create a better environment for businesses to operate.
The dualisation of the Ibadan–Ijebu Ode Road is expected to improve road safety, reduce congestion and journey times, and strengthen economic activities along the corridor.
