The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has strengthened its operational partnership with the Nigerian Navy to enhance port security and streamline cargo movement.

Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Apapa, made this known during a courtesy visit to Rear Admiral Abubakar Abdullahi Mustapha, Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command.

The meeting aimed to deepen operational collaboration in line with the three policy thrusts of Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi: consolidation, collaboration, and innovation.

“The CGC’s first priority is consolidation. Since assuming office, I have focused on building on existing gains and enhancing the relationship between Apapa Command and the Navy,” Oshoba said.

On collaboration, he emphasised that modern border management demands joint effort.

“While Customs facilitates trade and generates revenue, we also perform critical security functions. Achieving this mandate requires close coordination with the military, the cornerstone of national security,” he noted.

Regarding innovation, Oshoba added: “Innovation means doing things differently to achieve better results. Strengthening inter-agency cooperation is central to this approach.”

He praised the Navy for safeguarding Nigeria’s waters, stressing: “No vessel can enter the country without secure maritime routes.

We commend your efforts and seek continued support along the Apapa port corridor to ensure smooth cargo movement.”

Reaponding, Mustapha lauded the longstanding partnership between the agencies.

“Port security depends on inter-agency coordination. Without security, development is impossible,” he said.

He also commended the Customs Service under CGC Adeniyi for curbing revenue leakages and exceeding national revenue targets.

“Your success translates to more infrastructure and stronger social safety nets for the country. Keep up the good work,” he urged.

He assured the Customs Command of ongoing seamless cooperation to secure the maritime domain and support Nigeria’s economic growth.
