The Murtala Muhammed Area (MMA) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced a revenue collection of N45.77 billion for the first quarter of 2025, an increase of 0.61 per cent compared to the same period in 2024. The Command also reported seizing contraband worth over N132 million during the same period.
During a media briefing at the Command on Wednesday in Lagos, Controller Michael Awe said the Command generated N45,773,368,690 between January and March 2025, reflecting a 0.61 per cent rise from the N45,496,389,766 recorded in Q1 2024.
He attributed the increase of N276.98 million to improved stakeholder compliance, stricter enforcement of trade regulations, and proactive measures to close loopholes.
Awe said: “This impressive performance was made possible through enhanced compliance by our stakeholders, continuous monitoring and enforcement of trade regulations, as well as prompt intervention and blockage of identified loopholes. We commend all the Command’s compliant traders and stakeholders who have continued to support the Command’s revenue drive in line with the Service’s mandate.”
In terms of anti-smuggling activities, he said the Command made the following seizure during the period under review: four packages of immigration camouflage uniform in rolls, 19 packages of two-way Motorola walkie-talkies, and three packages of Colorado CAT leaf. The total Duty Paid Value of these seizures stood at N132,460,135.49. Awe credited intelligence sharing, vigilance on the part of the officers, and advanced profiling techniques for the successful seizures.
“These seizures were made possible through intelligence sharing, continuous profiling, and vigilance of our officers. Let me reiterate that the Command remains unwavering in its commitment to frustrate all forms of illegitimate trade attempted through the Murtala Muhammed Area Command. We shall continue to enforce all extant laws and regulations with utmost professionalism and integrity,” he said.
