From Olanrewaju Lawal, Birnin Kebbi
The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has issued a stern warning to officers in Kebbi State, urging them not to allow ‘camp boys’ to take over their duties at various border checkpoints.
During a visit to the Kebbi State Area Command headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, Adeniyi, who was represented by the Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) and Zonal Coordinator for Zone B, Sambo Khaliel Dangaladima, emphasized the need for strict discipline among officers. The zone includes Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara States.
“The infiltration of ‘camp boys’ into our checkpoints is unacceptable,” Adeniyi said, stressing that these individuals are illegal and have no record with the NCS. “We must ensure that only authorized personnel are assigned to these posts and maintain the highest standards of professionalism in all our operations.”
While at the headquarters, Adeniyi also inaugurated a football mini-field and an e-learning center, both funded by state stakeholders in collaboration with the NCS. He commended the initiative, saying, “These fantastic facilities are a testament to the collaboration with stakeholders. It takes a committed leader like Comptroller Iheanacho Ernest Ojike to establish such essential resources.”
Regarding the safety of officers on duty, Adeniyi acknowledged the security challenges faced by officers in the state, including banditry, kidnapping, and cross-border crimes.
“While we face many threats, we must not allow them to deter us from fulfilling our duties. I have full confidence in each of you to overcome these challenges,” he said, encouraging officers to continue their work with determination.
The CGC further assured officers that the NCS is addressing the difficult economic conditions affecting their welfare, and efforts are underway to alleviate the financial strain on officers. “We are committed to improving the welfare of our personnel,” Adeniyi said. “Your hard work and professionalism have not gone unnoticed, and we will ensure that the high cost of living is mitigated.”
During his visit, the Zonal Coordinator, along with Comptroller Iheanacho Ernest Ojike, also met with Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammad Illiyasu Bashar, to solicit his royal support for the NCS’s activities in the region. Additionally, the newly established e-learning library was named after the CGC as the “Mr. Wale Adeniyi E-learning Centre.”
The initiative aims to enhance the training and capacity building of NCS officers in the region and strengthen collaboration with local communities and stakeholders.
