A non-governmental organisation, the Pristine Initiative for Social Development (PRISOD), has again urged President Bola Tinubu to wage an all-out war on corruption in order to save the country.
In a letter addressed to the president, PRISOD said corrupt Nigerians, especially public servants, were capable of, and seem set to sink the country with their unbridled corrupt acts.
In the letter signed by its Chairman Isa Badamasi and Secretary Idowu Ogedengbe, the group said it was “calling attention to the systematic, large-scale corruption in our country. It’s pervasive, and permeates all strata of our society. Without mincing words, corruption is the greatest threat to the existence of our dear country.”
PRISOD described the epicentres of this scourge as the public service in all tiers of government, the security agencies, the judiciary and the legislature. “It is, therefore, of utmost importance that the Tinubu administration must take urgent steps to tame this monster before it completely destroys the e country. We are aware that sleaze and monumental plunder of our commonwealth predated this administration, yet that is no reason for ‘business as usual.’
“Unfortunately, the perception of the majority of Nigerians is that there is no difference between the past and present administration in their attitude to corruption and corrupt practices.”
Calling for further strengthening of anti-corruption tools to fight the scourge, PRISOD echoed the call for special courts for corruption matters, adding that “these courts should also handle oil thefts, kidnapping and banditry matters.
“Matters before these special courts should be concluded in three to four weeks. There is an urgent need to show Nigerians that this administration has zero tolerance for corruption and corrupt tendencies,” the group added.
