The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) recently distributed learning and relief materials to schools and orphanages in Zaria, Kaduna State in line with its Corporate Social Responsibility blueprint.
During the distribution exercise, the North West Director of the council, Mrs Karimatu Othman, emphasised that the initiative highlights the council’s commitment to supporting education and improving the lives of underprivileged children.
“This initiative is a demonstration of our commitment to giving back to the community and supporting the education of children who need it the most,” Othman stated. She further highlighted that by providing essential resources, the NSC is playing a crucial role in bridging the gap between disadvantaged and privileged children.
The council’s donations included textbooks, notebooks, and other educational materials delivered to Kufena College, Zaria, and LEA Primary School Unguwar Magajiya, Zaria. Additionally, Beth Torrey Home/School, an orphanage in the Tukur-Tukur area of Zaria, received items such as blankets, a washing machine, towels, a deep freezer, and double-burner cookers.
Speaking on the broader impact of the initiative, Othman noted, “This effort reflects the importance of corporate social responsibility and the significant role organizations can play in making a positive impact on their communities.”

She further added that over the past decade, the council’s North West office has consistently engaged in numerous interventions across health, education, and humanitarian sectors, reaching countless communities in need. Othman urged the beneficiaries to ensure the donated items are utilized effectively to serve their intended purpose.
At Beth Torrey Home/School, Abubakar Saidu, the orphanage manager, expressed profound gratitude for the council’s support. The home caters to children with mental and physical challenges, providing them with a safe and nurturing environment.
“The items donated to us are essential and will significantly address many of the challenges we face daily,” Saidu said. He emphasized that the orphanage is a non-profit organization committed to caring for mentally and physically challenged children, many of whom require specialized attention.
He also lauded the Nigerian Shippers’ Council for its thoughtfulness and generosity. “Kudos to the Nigerian Shippers’ Council for this commendable effort. I hope this initiative inspires other organizations to follow suit and make a difference in the lives of those around them,” he added.
The NSC’s initiative has been widely praised as a reflection of its commitment to fostering social change and uplifting underserved communities, setting an example for others to emulate.
