The Southern Senatorial District stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State have rejected the plan to extend the tenure of the current state chairman, Venatius Ikem.
The stakeholders made this known in a seven-point communiqué issued after an enlarged caucus meeting and signed by Victor Ekpo, the State Vice Chairman.
The stakeholders cited Ikem’s leadership as being “riddled with all forms of conflict and divisive tendencies”.
Key points from the communiqué made available in Calabar indicate that they have outright rejected the planned tenure extension of the state chairman and strongly condemned a factional state caucus meeting in Abuja that called for Ikem’s tenure extension.

They, however, commended Mrs Amina Darasimi D. Bryhm, National Woman Leader, for her bold steps to stabilise the party.
The stakeholders also pledged their commitment to an inclusive congress and expressed their determination to adopt the existing party offices allocated to the Southern Senatorial District in the congress.
The meeting was attended by prominent stakeholders, including State Deputy Chairman Ntufam Denis Nkiri, State Assistant Publicity Secretary Hon. Paul Agbo, Ambassador Nkoyo Toyo, and former State Chairman Ntufam Ekpo Okon.
This development has sparked intense debate within the party, with many wondering what implications this will have for the party’s future in Cross River State.
