The Senator representing Cross River North, Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, led some of his supporters to thank God for his victory in last year’s senatorial election.
The thanksgiving service which took place at the St Benedict’s Cathedral Igoli Ogoja attracted supporters across the 54 political wards and five local government areas that make up the Cross River North Senatorial District.
The thanksgiving service was necessary in view of the fact that the contest was not a piece of cake. It was between Jarigbe and the then governor of the state, Prof. Ben Ayade.
The senator shocked the political establishment in the state by emerging victorious against all odds. The outcome of the election was challenged in the tribunal and well as the Court of Appeal but Jarigbe’s victory found was upheld.
Reflecting on his victory during his thanksgiving, the lawmaker said he faced formidable odds and described his victory as a collective achievement. He acknowledged all who worked for his victory, saying he remains forever indebted to them .
Jarigbe told his supporters: “Our victory in the recent general elections, against formidable odds, is not merely a personal triumph but a collective achievement of unwavering determination and unyielding support.
“Your faith in me, your overwhelming support and your resolute determination to change has propelled us to this historic moment.
“I want to express my profound gratitude to those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, whose dedication often goes but whose contributions are invaluable.
“From the church, campaign volunteers to party officials, from grassroots organisers to community leaders, each of you played an indispensable role in our journey to victory. Your sacrifices have not gone unnoticed and I am forever indebted to your selfless service.”
He promised to serve his constituents with utmost dedication, integrity and passion.
In his sermon, the Catholic Bishop of Ogoja Diocese, Most Rev. Donatus Akpan, welcomed the thanksgiving, saying it’s critical that Senator Jarigbe knows the source of his blessings. He said God made him victorious for the sake of his people and he must always live a life of service at all times.
He also disclosed that God wants the senator to be a witness among his people and also test him and the stuff he is made of. He advised the political class to always stand by the truth at all times and whenever they have an office that has influence, they should make the truth their specialty.
Other dignitaries who graced the occasion include the minority leader of the senator, Abba Moro; minister of state for petroleum (gas) Obong Ekperikpe Ekpo; State PDP chairman, Venatius Ikem; Efiok Cobham, Ekpo Okon, Hon. Peter Akpanke, Hon. Alex Egbonna and Hon. Godwin Offiong.
