The Cross River State Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) stakeholders have sacked Anthony Bissong Attah as its state’s chairman over alleged anti-party activities.
The stakeholders made up of some key other party officials among others accused the former chairman, Dr Anthony Bissong Attah, of holding clandestine meetings as well as collecting money from All Progressives Congress (APC) to systematically emasculate the Youth Progressive Party (YPP) in the state.
Addressing journalists in the presence of some key stakeholders of IPAC in Calabar at the weekend, the newly-elected secreatry, Henry Iso, stated that Attah’s removal took effect from Wednesday, February 9, 2023, in line with IPAC modus operandi.
Iso said the new IPAC leadership had passed a vote of confidence on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) because the BVAS initiative will add more credibility to our electoral process just as they commend the Cross River state Police command for its preparedness towards the forthcoming general election.
He said: “Recently he signed and collected the sum of N3.5m for this purpose. He has become more of an APC than a YPP. This is unacceptable and is a negation of the constitution of Our great party.
“The former chairman has derailed the focus of our party, thereby plunging us into ridicule, shame and mockery.
“Besides, he is bossy overall state working committee members and even key party stakeholders such that his actions have caused us a lot of embarrassment,” he stated.
According to Iso, Attah’s sack as IPAC chairman was a result of his suspension as state chairman of the Young People’s Party (YPP).
In his remarks, the new IPAC state chairman, Chief Edet Okon, lauded stakeholders for giving the privilege to serve as the new chairman.
Okon said: “This is a new dawn in the leadership of IPAC. My emergence became necessary following the suspension of former IPAC state chairman, Mr Anthony Bissong Attah, who had been suspended by his party.
“The leadership of IPAC met and considered it expedient to elect me as their new leader after Attah was suspended from office by Youth Progressive Party YPP and IPAC found him wanting.”
Reacting to his removal, Anthony Bissong Attah said he remains the authentic Chairman of IPAC in Cross River state.
“I don’t know who these people masquerading as IPAC stakeholders are. Where did they conduct their elections to install themselves as IPAC officials?
“Time will tell. Does INEC know them as IPAC officials? I know where all this is coming from.”
