The Director General of the Campaign Organisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Cross River State, Amb Soni Abang, has stated the party has credible candidates with enormous electoral value and would rout the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 polls.

In an interview in Calabar on Monday, Abang, the former Nigerian Ambassador to Mali, expressed optimism that APC’s victory is guaranteed at all levels, especially in the governorship election with formidable Prince Bassey Edet Otu as the candidate.

And in readiness for the task ahead, the former PDP state chairman, disclosed that broad-based directorates will be formed across all strata of the APC and that the campaign structure will be different from earlier ones.

He added that presently, the campaign organisation is working with over 100 members of academia from various disciplines in line with the urgent need of the ruling party ahead of the elections.

Berating the opposition party, he said: “PDP is coming into the elections with a very heavy moral baggage which is hanging conspicuously on its neck.

“This baggage is the insistence of the opposition PDP on producing a governorship candidate from the central senatorial district when the doctrine of equity, natural justice, fair play and brotherliness dictates otherwise.

“We condemned a situation where people have become too greedy for political power and have in the process, thrown away sterling political expedience for personal gains.

“There is an unwritten rule which governs power equations in Cross River whereby all the senatorial districts in the state take turns to produce the governor without any rancour.

“It was only natural that the number one seat be occupied by the southern senatorial district from May 2023, having gone round all the districts. Hence the remarkable solidarity for the Back to South Political Movement is gathering momentum by the day.”

He commended Governor Ben Ayade for equitably distributing political appointments to cover all strata of the society in the state and the APC would rely on these appointees as able hands to win the elections, assuring that the party will not take anything for granted just as it cannot afford to throw away the goodwill of the people.

According to him, Cross River is a work in progress and under an APC-led administration in 2023 the progressive recorded would be consolidated especially in the area of human and agricultural potentials.

On the introduction of more modern technology ahead of the 2023 general election, Amb. Abang noted that it is a good development as the outcome of the elections will reflect the wishes and aspirations of the people.

He explained that the introduction of BVAS by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has the potential of making votes count and diminishing public apathy in Nigerian elections.
