The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest has commended Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for swiftly orchestrating the safe evacuation of over 230 Lagos State students studying at the University of Jos, following the recent security concerns in the Plateau State capital.
The commendation was conveyed in a Monday statement signed by Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NANS Southwest, Comrade Tope Olugbemi.
SunOnline recalls that UNIJOS was temporarily shut and academic activities suspended due to security concerns after at least 27 persons were killed by gunmen in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North LGA on March 29.
It was learnt that Governor Sanwo-Olu, through the Lagos State Ministry of Tertiary Education, facilitated the evacuation of Lagos’ students at UNIJOS by deploying a convoy of buses accompanied by security personnel.
NANS hailed the governor’s action as “swift and thoughtful”.
The statement reads, “The office of the PRO NANS Southwest Zone noted the swift and thoughtful action by the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu in ensuring the safe evacuation of over 230 Lagos State students studying at the University of Jos, following the recent security concerns in Jos, the capital of Plateau State.
“At a moment like this, where uncertainty can easily turn into fear, this kind of intervention matters. It shows not just leadership, but a real sense of responsibility towards the safety and wellbeing of students, no matter where they find themselves across the country.
