Katsina State Governor, Umaru Dikko Radda, has urged graduating students of the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University (UMYU) to deploy their training towards creating jobs rather than searching for non-existent jobs.
“You should create wealth and make yourselves beneficial to your immediate and larger environments by being job providers instead of job seekers,” the Governor said on Saturday at the 9th-13th combined convocation ceremony of UMYU.
According to him, “let me draw your attention to the financial realities on ground across the world.
“It is no longer business as usual as you must adjust your expectations and aspirations to the changing realities and ensure you continue to learn and relearn and become relevant to the 21st century.
“You should creatively deploy your training and skills to meet up with the new challenges instead of employing old ways of doing things.
“You should be enterprising because the jobs are no longer available as they used to be and I want announce to you that money is available to the tune of N3.4 billion at the Katsina State Enterprises Development Agency in collaboration with the Bank of Industry for anybody who wants to take up business enterprise.”
Radda said his administration would continue to support UMYU to attain its potentials adding that efforts are ongoing to complete the infrastructure development for the university’s teaching hospital for its faculty of medical sciences.
Over 9,000 students graduated with various bachelor’s degrees while three former governors of the state, Saidu Barda, Ibrahim Shehu Shema and Aminu Bello Masari, were awarded with honorary doctorate degrees.
