Court orders NFF to show cause over planned extraordinary congress

Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to show cause why it should proceed with its planned Extraordinary Congress scheduled to hold in Bayelsa State.

Justice G. M. Umar issued the directive on Monday, February 9, after hearing submissions from Chief Victor Rumson Baribote, counsel to the plaintiffs.

In addition, the court granted substituted service of all processes in the ongoing contempt proceedings.

The matter has been adjourned to February 17, 2026, for further hearing.

The development comes amid lingering legal disputes surrounding the leadership of the NFF. Stakeholders will recall that despite the pendency of Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1376/2021 and a Court of Appeal judgment that set aside the September 30, 2022 election, the Ibrahim Gusau-led board has remained in office.

According to the claimants, all court processes have been duly served on the NFF in compliance with the court’s directives.

The statement was issued by Prince Harrison Jalla, Chairman of the Advocacy for Nigeria Football Reform Concepts.
