Justice Amina Aliyu of the Kano High Court has fixed June 24, 2024 to hear a motion ex parte which sought to restrain the five deposed emirs of Kano Emirates from parading themselves as emirs.
Justice Aliyu adjourned the case, yesterday, after listening to the argument of the applicants on whether the respondents had been duly served with the order. The judge had earlier granted an ex parte order directing the commissioner of police to take over and evict Aminu Ado Bayero from the palace, where he is currently residing in the metropolis.
The order was to be served through the office of the commissioner of police. The hearing was, therefore, stalled as the respondents had not been served with the order.
The suit was filed by the Attorney General of Kano State, alongside the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, and has Aminu Bayero, alongside the Emirs of Gaya, Karaye, Rano and Bichi emirates as respondents.
At the resumed hearing of the case, yesterday, security was tight around the court premises, with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) positioned strategically to maintain law and order.
