A Kano High Court, presided over by Justice Amina Aliyu, has fixed 24 June 2024 to hear a motion ex-parte seeking to restrain the five deposed Emirs of five Kano Emirates from parading themselves as Emirs.
Justice Aliyu adjourned the case to this date after listening to the argument of the applicants on whether the respondents had been duly served with the order.
The judge had earlier granted an ex-parte order directing the Commissioner of Police to take over the palace where Aminu Ado Bayero is currently residing in the metropolis and to evict him.
The order was to be served through the office of the Commissioner of Police. However, the hearing was stalled as the respondents had not been served with the order.
The suit was filed by the Attorney General of Kano State, alongside the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, and names Aminu Bayero, alongside the Emirs of Gaya, Karaye, Rano, and Bichi emirates, as respondents.
At the resumed hearing of the case on Tuesday, security was tight around the court premises, with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) positioned strategically to maintain law and order.
