  • We May not join issues with social media warriors- To address issues at our own time–Ministry

From Idu Jude Abuja

The least have not been heard of the multi-million naira rail project signed by the FG for the modernization of the Port Harcourt – Enugu – Calabar- Abuja rail project, with one messes MPH UK, as social attack alleges that the contract was a hoax as the said company does not have anything to do with railway construction.

Recall that Minister of Transportation Sen. Said Alkali last week announced the signing of (an MoU) with Messrs MPH Rail Development (UK) Limited to enable the Company to carry out the design, construction, commissioning, operation, and transfer of the projects in line with the public-private partnership basis.

The memorandum was executed following the approval Outline Business Case and issuance of a compliance certificate by the Infrastructure, Concession and Regulatory Commission (ICRC).

But to the chagrin of every Nigeria, Saturday afternoon was awash as a social media handle X- otherwise known as Twitter, alleges that the contract was a scam.

A social media user known as @X handles @Nigerianlawyers. Said, “Why are we like this in Nigeria? The company was incorporated on 26 September 2019 with a share capital of £100.

“It filed accounts in August 2021, June 2022, and April 2023 with the UK Companies House as a *dormant* company! It still only showed £100 share capital. In May 2022, the UK Companies Registry filed a notice of compulsory dissolution but discontinued it a month later. In October 2023, it increased its share capital to £1,000. Then, in March 2024, it wins a BOT contract for the PH-Enugu-Calabar-Abuja rail line. Are we ever serious in this country? Haven’t we learned anything from P&ID?

“Not one person in that paper company’s board has ever been associated with construction talk less of a railway.”
After a long wait, for private investors to step into the modernization of the Port Harcourt – Enugu -Calabar- Abuja rail lines,

The Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Ahmed Alkali has executed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Messrs MPH Rail Development (UK) Limited to enable the Company to carry out the design, construction, commissioning, operation, and transfer of the projects inline with public-private partnership basis.

The memorandum was executed following the approval Outline Business Case and issuance of a compliance certificate by the Infrastructure, Concession and Regulatory Commission (ICRC).

This development will enable the Company to concentrate on preparing relevant documents to support a request for approval from the Federal Executive Council to execute the project.

Meanwhile, the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Transportation Mr. Olujomi Oyetola, told the Sun, that, ” the ministry may choose not to dignify social media warriors and those who may be up to mischief with such an elaborate reaction. There is no need for that. A well-articulated statement, such as is already in my possession, is enough.
