From Priscilla Ediare, Ado-Ekiti
The Commissioner for Information in Ekiti State, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, has said the reason for the continuous calls by many indigenes of the state for Governor Biodun Oyebanji to contest for a second term in office is tied to the confidence the people have in his leadership.
Speaking when he featured on a radio programme titled *People’s Platform* in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of the state, the Commissioner noted that Ekiti people on different political, social, and religious platforms have been calling on Oyebanji to seek re-election following his sterling performances in the last two years of his administration.
Olatunbosun, who stated that the Governor has not officially indicated an intention to seek re-election for a second term, said Oyebanji’s inclusive governance and the various unprecedented all-round infrastructural developments have endeared him to the hearts of Ekiti people. He stressed that the Governor has, no doubt, done well to earn a second term, as echoed by Ekiti people.
“It is Governor Oyebanji’s inalienable right to contest for a second term. Ekiti people have been talking about it. They gave him their mandate, and I can tell you categorically that he has done well to earn a second term. The reward for good work is more work, and people have started giving commendations that since he has been doing well in the last two years, he should be allowed to continue till 2030,” Olatunbosun said.

He attributed the successes recorded by the Oyebanji administration to the Governor’s perfect understanding of the Ekiti terrain, its people, and their needs, which, according to him, has translated into developmental strides and transformation scattered across the state.
Olatunbosun highlighted some of the efforts of the Oyebanji administration to develop the state, including the ongoing transformation of the notorious Atikankan slum in Ado-Ekiti, which was once a centre of criminal activities. He added that the government took a bold step in taking possession of the area, duly compensated the property owners, and commenced the process of turning it into a befitting Central Business District in the state capital.
He added that the Oyebanji government has also continued to facilitate soft loans for Ekiti traders, thereby protecting them from taking loans with excessively high interest rates and the activities of loan sharks. He stressed that the focus is to enable traders to concentrate on developing their businesses, thereby contributing to enhancing commercial activities and development in the state.
The Commissioner reiterated the commitment of the present administration to the welfare of residents and assured that the state government would continue to be responsive and responsible.
