Competent manpower key to oil/gas sector – Lokpobiri

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, has identified the importance federal government attached to Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, in the training and re-training of manpower in oil and gas sector, urging the new intakes to make academic excellence their priority so as to be relevant in the industry.

Speaking at the combined matriculation ceremony of 1, 793 admitted for the National Diploma, Higher National Diploma and Commercial Diving programme for the 2023/2024 academic session.

Lokpobiri, who was represented at the occasion by one of his aides, Barrister Roland Oweilami, admonished the students to prioritize their studies over and above any other social activities as their performance determines the future of the oil and gas sector.

According to him; “The oil and gas sector plays a significant role in the economy contributing about 65 per cent of government revenue and over 85 per cent of total exports in Nigeria”.

“Furthermore, the Petroleum sector contributes 6.63 per cent to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP)”.
