The National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) said it would soon commence postgraduate training of Family Physicians at the Rasheed Shekoni Specialist Hospital, Dutse, Jigawa.
The college gave the indication through Mr Steven Yuhana, who led an accreditation team on a courtesy visit to the state’s Head of the Civil Service (HoS), Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa in Dutse.
The Spokesman for the HoS, Alhaji Isma’il Ibrahim, said this in a statement in Dutse on Wednesday.
Ibrahim quoted Yuhana as having told HoS that the team was in the state to inspect facilities for possible commencement of the postgraduate medical training in the hospital.
According to the leader of the team, Family Physicians are doctors who specialise in comprehensive healthcare for people of all ages.
The team leader also said that the aim of family medicine was to provide personal, comprehensive and continued care for the individual context of family and the community.
Yuhana also described family medicine as comprehensive care for the whole person and helped to reduce healthcare costs and increases healthcare quality.
Receiving the team, HoS thanked the visitors and assured them that the state government would do everything possible to meet the demands of the college for the commencement of the programme within the shortest time possible.
The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abba Zakari, team led the team to the office of the head of the civil service. (NAN)
