The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has directed troops of Operation HADIN KAI to sustain offensive operations against terrorists and ensure the complete clearance of remaining insurgent elements in the North-East.

Shaibu gave the directive at the weekend during an operational assessment visit to the Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri.

The visit, according to the army chief, was aimed at evaluating the prevailing security situation in the theatre, assessing the effectiveness of ongoing operations, and strengthening coordination among security stakeholders engaged in stabilising the region.

Addressing the troops, Shaibu commended their courage, resilience, and sacrifices in protecting civilians and degrading terrorist groups operating across the North-East.

He urged the personnel to remain vigilant, maintain a high level of situational awareness, and sustain the operational tempo already established in the theatre.

The COAS stressed that improved intelligence-gathering, effective coordination among units, and a proactive operational posture were critical to consolidating the successes recorded so far.

He further charged the troops to intensify efforts to deny terrorists freedom of movement and operational space, particularly as the Ramadan period progresses.

“The days of staying on the defensive are over. Troops must continue to take the battle to the terrorists wherever they are found,” the army chief said.

Earlier, the theatre commander of the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, presented a detailed operational briefing to the COAS, outlining recent operational activities, achievements, and existing challenges in the theatre.

Abubakar assured the army chief of the troops’ continued professionalism, dedication, and commitment to restoring peace and security in the region.

He noted that despite occasional setbacks in some areas, the morale of troops remains high and personnel remain resolute in carrying out their mandate to stabilise the North-East.
