Youths from across the Niger Delta region gathered in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, for a solidarity rally in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration. The rally also aimed to thank the President for appointing Dr. Dennis Otuaro as the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).
The placard-carrying youths, adorned in T-shirts and Fez caps with the inscription “We appreciate the Jagaban on the appointment of Otuaro,” converged on the Okutukutu area of the state capital as early as 9 am.
The over one-kilometre solidarity march, which started from Okutukutu and terminated at the popular Tombia roundabout, saw the youths chanting solidarity songs to appreciate President Tinubu for also appointing capable leaders such as Dr Samuel Ogbuku (Managing Director of the NDDC), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri (Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil)), and Prince Ebitimi Amgbare (MD of the Niger Delta River Basin Authority), among others.
Apostle Bodmas Kemepadei, the Convener of the coalition, stated that the rally comprised youth groups across the region. He highlighted the youths’ support for President Tinubu and their appreciation for Dr. Otuaro’s appointment, emphasizing its potential to bring peace to the Niger Delta.
“The youths are unanimously supporting and commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the appointment of Dr. Dennis Burutu Otuaro as the Administrator of PAP,” Kemepadei said. “They are also saying that Mr President has done well; they are saying that Otuaro’s appointment is going to bring peace in the Niger Delta.”
Kemepadei further emphasized that Otuaro’s appointment would address youth restiveness and gun violence in the region. He also noted that President Tinubu’s leadership has reduced tension in the Niger Delta and that the appointment of Otuaro would further promote peace and stability.
“Prior to this time, the Niger Delta region used to be volatile,” Kemepadei said. “But many will agree with me that since Tinubu became the President, there has been relative peace in the region.”
Hellington Barakumor, the deputy coordinator of the group, also spoke at the rally, highlighting Otuaro’s well-deserved appointment. He thanked President Tinubu and pledged the youths’ commitment to ensuring peace and unity in the region.
