Citizens’ Assembly tackles Niger State security woes amid federal crackdown

A physical session of the Citizens’ Assembly convened in Niger State on Thursday, brought together members and stakeholders from 12 local government areas to confront escalating security challenges head-on.

Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement in the North Central region, Abiodun Essiet, who led the engagement in Minna, made the disclosure, saying the meeting drew participants from Mashegu, Edati, Shiroro, Agaie, Agwara, Gurara, Chanchaga, Kontagora, Rafi, Mariga, Munya, and Borgu.

The forum, she said focused on gathering firsthand insights and documenting community feedback on local security threats, while briefing attendees on the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to curb terrorist attacks across the North Central zone and beyond.

“Today, we held a physical session of the Citizens’ Assembly in Minna, Niger State, bringing together Assembly members and key stakeholders from 12 Local Government Areas,” Essiet stated. “The engagement was aimed at gathering first-hand insights and documenting feedback from community members on the security challenges in their respective communities. It also provided an opportunity to brief participants on the ongoing efforts of the Federal Government to curb the terrorist attacks in the North Central zone and other parts of the country.”

Following the session, Essiet said she paid courtesy visits to key security chiefs, including Niger State Commissioner for Homeland Security, Maurice Magaji; Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman; and State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Usman Ibrahim. Who shared the gathered feedback to boost strategies for protecting lives and property statewide.

“His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, remains firmly committed to ensuring the security of every Nigerian, in every part of the country,” Essiet affirmed.
