The Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria (CIoD) is intensifying efforts to deepen collaboration with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government in a strategic move; aimed at promoting good governance, strengthening quality leadership, management and administrative practices to drive sustainable national economic revival.
The initiative underscores CIoD’s commitment to fostering accountability and institutional excellence across the public sector. Through stronger engagement with MDAs, the Institute seeks to promote corporate governance principles, enhance policy implementation and create an enabling environment for economic growth and national development.
The President/Chairman of Governing Council of the Institute, Otunba Adetunji Oyebanji, who addressed journalists shortly after its 2026 Annual General Meeting in Lagos, said it was high time the federal and state government officials and personnel began to associate themselves with the Institute to gain enormous knowledge in corporate governance.
Oyebanji revealed that the Institute has engaged with the Lagos and Abia State governments on capacity building for their respective senior civil servants to boost service delivery. “We had interactions with the governors of Lagos and Abia State to bring in their Permanent Secretaries and Directors in their various ministries, departments and agencies to make them members of the Institute to enable them gain capacity boost in the interest of their State and Nigeria at large.

“We shall help to develop their capacity to make better decisions and perform better. Already our members in both private and public sectors are making impact. We encountered the government to send their personnel to become members of the Institute so they can gain high levels trainings. This will help them add greater value to their corporate organizations and Nigeria economy at large” he charged.
On his part, the second Vice President of the Institute, Lamis Dikko, who expressed satisfaction with the performance of all segments and arms of the Institute, he advised that every member of the Institute at different sectors of the economy to uphold ethical standards and obey the rule of law to the letter.
“There should be no compromise on ethics of the boardrooms and management of corporate organizations. That is one of the ways to change the country. We must respect the rule of law, this country will be transformed” he urged.
CIoD believes that a robust partnership between the public and private sectors with professional bodies remain critical to unlocking Nigeria’s economic huge potential, as improved leadership standards and sound governance practices continue to shape a more resilient and prosperous economy.
