A Christian group in Borno, the Gwoza Elite Forum, has called on christians to participate actively in the forthcoming political activities and also mobilise support for others seeking elective positions.

President of the Forum, Emmanuel Ibrahim, made the call at the third National Gwoza Christian Forum in Maiduguri to sensitise Christians on the coming electioneering and increasing terrorist attacks.

“The purpose of this conference is all about inclusivity and how we can come together to support our own state. We understand the fragile security issue in the state, the more reason for communities to participate in peaceful and national development,” he disclosed.

He emphasised the necessity to have good representations in the 2027 elections, calling on the people to support candidates that could provide effective leadership and representation at all levels.

“Effective representation cannot be overemphasised in fostering unity in a diverse community like Borno. Priority must be given to human, capital and infrastructural development in terms of education, political structure and health, among others.

“Our people in Cameroon should be prioritised and brought back to their ancestral home with improved security within the communities,” he said

Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Borno State Chapter, Most Rev John Bakeni, in his remark, urged Christians in the state to get involved in politics instead of seeing it as a dirty game.

“The issue of Christian participation in politics has been an issue of great concern for us in the state. In politics, we, Christians are late comers to this game, perhaps, because of our history and how the faith was handed over to us. “But I think that is a wrong understanding. If you have the disposition that politics is unsafe and that it is a dirty game, that is wrong. Politics is not a dirty game,  rather, it is a system of governance,” Bakeni said

He queried the claim that politics is dirty, insisting it is those who participate in politics that make it dirty.

“So, I don’t succumb to the claim that it is a dirty game. This is why as a Christian, you should participate and get involved by bringing your charisma and Christian values, so that you can go in and sanitise it,” he counselled.
