• To Launch Young Farmers Club in Public Schools

The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, on children’s day as part of activities to commemorate President Bola Tinubu’s first year anniversary in office has plashed the sum of N160 million on 16 schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

She made the announcement at an event tagged “Celebrating With Our Children Theme: Our Children, Our Future”, to mark the Children’s Day at the State House Conference Center, Abuja.

The beneficiaries that got N10 million reach towards their schools’ developmental needs are Junior Secondary School, Karu, Model Girls Junior Secondary School, AMAC Estate, Junior Secondary School, Naharati Sabo, Abaji, FCT School for the Blind Children, Jabi and Pilot Science Primary School, Kuje.

Others are the Nigeria-Korea Model. School (Primary), AMAC, Junior Secondary School, Abaji, Gado Nasko Science Primary School, Gwagwalada, Junior Secondary School Dutse Sagwari, Bwari and LEA Primary School Bako, Kwali.

Others are Police POWA International Children School, Abuja, Airforce: NAFOWA Little Angels, Navy: NOWA Creche Nursery and Primary School, Abuja, DSS: Community Staff School, Abuja, Army: NAOWA Nursery and Primary School and DEPOWA.

Mrs. Tinubu while welcoming the children described them as those who bring immense joy to their parents and the country.

“I am delighted to welcome all our lovely children to the State House. It is your day and I am happy to celebrate with you all.”

She emphasised that this year’s celebration holds great significance, as it marks the first year of the Tinubu presidency, which she said has brought renewed hope for the country.

Addressing the children, the First Lady encouraged them to nurture their curiosity, continue learning, and never be afraid to ask questions. She urged them to dream big and aspire for greatness, despite the challenges they may face.

“To our dear children, I want to encourage you to nurture your curiosity and keep learning. Getting the right education and going to school is important for your future. Never be afraid to ask questions and seek guidance,” Mrs. Tinubu said.

The First Lady also recognised the crucial role of teachers, whom she referred to as “burden bearers and nurturers,” and thanked them for their sacrifices and contributions to the children’s development.

Addressing the realities faced by some Nigerian children, Mrs. Tinubu stated that it is incumbent upon the government and the people to support them with love, care, and compassion.

She highlighted the Renewed Hope Initiative, which she is leading, as a means to implement programs focused on education, agriculture, healthcare, and improving family lives.

First Lady announced that the “Young Farmers’ Club,” will be launched in public schools across the nation. The club, she explained aims to encourage farming among the young population and promote food security.

“The motto of this club is ‘Growing the Food I Eat, Starts with me’. This initiative is to encourage farming among our young population,” Mrs. Tinubu explained.

The First Lady said the grant of N10 million each from the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) to the schools that participated in the Children’s Day activities is to support their developmental needs.

In her closing remarks, Mrs. Tinubu reassured the children that President Ahmed Tinubu is committed to building a nation where every Nigerian child can reach their full potential. She expressed optimism about the promising future that lies ahead for the children of Nigeria.

Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima commended the First Lady for hosting 500 school children at the State House to celebrate them, saying is a testament to her commitment to ensuring that all segments are celebrated and supported.

“Our First Lady has always attached importance to the development of our children and this is evident in the various programmes launched under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), which focuses on improving the health, education and well-being of women and children.”

The Wife of the Vice President noted that as a trained and lifelong teacher, the First Lady understands the importance of education “in shaping the future of our children. Through her Renewed Hope Initiative, she has implemented various social investment programmes which are significant for children because when mothers are healthier and empowered they can inadequately pay for their needs including their education.”

Mrs. Shetimma advised the children to imbibe the virtues of resilience, discipline and hard work. He prayed for them to grow to be children who would make the nation proud.

The highlight of a Children’s Day celebration was the vibrant display of cultural dance and presentations emphasizing the message of unity in diversity, togetherness, and hard work.

The presentations featured traditional dance, and other artistic expressions from various regions of the country, showcasing the rich tapestry of Nigeria’s cultural heritage.

The event was attended by a high-profile entourage led by the First Lady, including the wife of the President, the Vice President’s wife, the wife of the President of the Senate, Ekaette Akpabio, the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fatima Abass, and the wives of various service chiefs.

The distinguished guests were seen actively participating in the cultural performances, dancing and laughing along with the presentations. The lively atmosphere underscored the celebratory nature of the occasion.
