The Chief Imam of Imo state, Barrister Sheikh Suleiman Njoku has called for religious tolerance and peace among Nigerians living in Ghana not minding their religious affiliations.
Sheikh Njoku made the statement while paying courtesy visit to the national Chief Imam of Ghana, Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu and Eze Ndigbo Ghana, His Royal Majesty, Eze Dr Chukwudi Ihenetu in his Obi Eziokwu palace.
The Mbaise Imo state- born Muslim cleric who is the first Igbo man to attain the exalted position of chief Imam in Nigeria, commended the Ghanian National Imam for the peaceful manner he conducted affairs of muslims in Ghana adding that Ndigbo as well as Christians in that country go about their activities peacefully without problem.
“This sterling quality endeared you to me and form the basis of my visit to you so as to learn from your wealth of knowledge.”, he said.
Earlier, Sheikh Njoku paid courtesy visit to Obi Eziokwu Palace where he was received by Eze Ndigbo Ghana, His Royal Majesty, Eze Dr. Chukwudi Ihenetu, palace elders and his Mbaise kinsmen, led by Ambassador Okwudili Nwandu, Akunesiobike Mbaise. Chief Nwandu later played host to Sheikh Njoku in his palatial home in Accra where other Igbos from Mabaise in Imo state converged to honour the Chief Imam.
Sheikh Njoku commended the Amaigbo Imo state-born Royal Father, HRM Dr Ihenetu for his examplary leadership which contributed to peace and unity among Ndigbo in Ghana.
Furthermore, Sheikh Njoku also commended the Ghanian national Chief Imam, Osmanu Sharabutu, member National Peace Council, Ghana, for his tolerance which saw him celebrating his 100 years birthday in a Catholic Church in Ghana. He said if other religious leaders were to emulate the Imam by recognizing that we are all one in our worship to the Almighty, the world would be a better place.
In his remarks, Eze Ihenetu thanked the Imo chief Imam for his visits while assuring him that as the Paramount king of Ndigbo in Ghana, he will continue to do his best in ensuring that their is peace and harmony among Nigerians and their host country, Ghana.
Sheikh Njoku concluded by praying for the Eze Ndigbo in Ghana, Nigerians, Ghanaians and Africa as a whole for peace to return to the continent.
