Centenary City Plc has recorded 35 per cent completion on its 4.3-kilometre access road in Abuja, indicating renewed momentum in the delivery of critical infrastructure for the flagship urban development project. The Managing Director of Centenary City Plc, Ike Odenigwe, disclosed this on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting convened to showcase progress on the road project and appreciate support from partners and host communities.
Odenigwe noted that construction work, which commenced in November 2025, had gathered momentum, with visible progress recorded on-site. According to him, the presence of key stakeholders on the project corridor demonstrates the company’s commitment to delivering critical infrastructure that will drive the city’s development. The MD commended host communities for their cooperation, revealing that the project cuts across five communities that have remained supportive, thereby ensuring smooth execution without disruptions.
He added that the company had prioritised strong community relations through continuous engagement, employment opportunities, and scholarship schemes aimed at improving livelihoods and fostering inclusive development.
Odenigwe explained that Centenary City was conceived as a sustainable urban development to enhance Abuja’s status as a modern capital city, attract investment, and support economic expansion through world-class infrastructure. He also acknowledged the support of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as well as regulatory backing from the Nigerian Export Processing Zones Authority, noting that both had played key roles in advancing the project.
“We are making steady progress, and what you see here today reflects our determination to deliver on our promise. This road is just the beginning of a broader infrastructure plan for Centenary City.
“Our goal is to ensure that host communities benefit directly through jobs and education. This project is not just about infrastructure; it is about people and shared prosperity,” he stated.
Providing technical insight, a representative of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Johnnie Kouchan, said the firm was leveraging its engineering expertise to ensure quality delivery of the project.
He described the road as a four-lane carriageway with supporting infrastructure, adding that strict adherence to international engineering and safety standards was guiding construction.
“This partnership is built on collaboration. While Centenary City provides the vision, we bring the technical capacity to deliver it. So far, we have achieved about 35 per cent completion,” Kouchan said.
He disclosed that the project is scheduled for completion by April 2027 and is expected to enhance connectivity, boost investor confidence, and stimulate economic activities within Abuja and adjoining communities.
In his remarks, the Emir of Jiwa, Idris Musa, commended the progress recorded but called for sustained engagement with host communities, particularly on issues of compensation and resettlement.
He urged the company to work closely with the Federal Capital Territory Administration to address concerns of affected residents and ensure that development benefits are equitably distributed.
