Meanwhile, the Computer-Based Test Centre Proprietors Association of Nigeria (CPAN) has expressed dismay at the sweeping condemnation of its members by the JAMB registrar for allegedly aiding and abetting examination malpractices in the last exercise.
CPAN’s media coordinator, Mr. Austin Ohaekelem, said at a press briefing in Lagos yesterday that members felt very hurt and sad “after helping JAMB achieve a most outstanding success in its 40-year history.”
He explained that the terms of engagement of the 2017 UTME clearly defined CBT centre owners’ role: to provide facilities for the exams only and never to meddle in the supervision of the exams.
He said the task of supervising and invigilating the exams were squarely in the hands of JAMB personnel deployed in the centres.
Ohaekelem said everything that took place throughout the examinations was recorded and a playback feature was enabled as instructed: “With all these human and electronic surveillance systems, JAMB is equipped enough to fish out all those behind the spate of criminal actions as noted, rather than passing sweeping verdict on CBT centres.”
