The Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization (CBAAC) has said it will explore cultural renaissance and creative economy, as it hosted its 2025 public lecture in Abuja.

With the theme “Cultural Renaissance and the Creative Economy: Harnessing African and Diaspora Cultural Resources for Digital Transformation,” the event witnessed scholars, culture enthusiasts and industry experts who spoke on how to explore the vast potential of Africa’s cultural resources in driving digital transformation and economic growth.
In her address, director-general of CBAAC, Aisha Adamu-Augie, emphasised the importance of harnessing African cultural resources for digital transformation.
“We gather at the intersection of culture, creativity and technology to explore the vast potential of Africa’s cultural resources in driving digital transformation and economic growth. We recognise that our cultural heritage is a treasure trove of creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship, waiting to be further harnessed and showcased to the rest of the world.
“From the ancient pyramids of Egypt to the vibrant Afrofuturism of contemporary Africa, our cultural expressions have always been at the forefront of human innovation and creativity. The digital revolution now offers us a unique opportunity to leverage our cultural resources to promote cultural exchange and collaboration, and to drive economic growth and development.
“The theme of our public lecture today is particularly pertinent, as we seek to explore the connections between cultural renaissance, creative economy, and digital transformation. We believe that the African creative economy has the potential to drive economic growth, create jobs, and promote cultural diversity.
“But what are these African and diaspora cultural resources that we can harness for digital transformation? I believe our guest lecturer, Prof. Victor Dugga and our theme of erudite panelists are ready to do justice to that for us all to learn from. Through Prof. Dugga’s presentation and the panelists’ discussions, we hope to gain a deeper understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing the African creative economy and to identify practical strategies for harnessing our cultural resources for digital transformation
“As we explore some of the themes and ideas discussed today, I implore you all to join us on this journey of discovery and innovation. Let us work together to unlock the full potential of Africa’s creative economy, and to promote a cultural renaissance that celebrates our diversity, creativity, and resilience.”
The lecture featured keynote presentation by Prof. Victor Dugga of the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State, who delved into the connections between cultural renaissance, creative economy and digital transformation.
The event aimed to promote cultural renaissance that celebrates Africa’s diversity, creativity and resilience, and to identify practical strategies for harnessing African cultural resources for digital transformation and economic growth.
