The Confederation of African Football has unanimously reaffirmed its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, while commending his contribution to the development of football across the continent.

The decision was communicated by CAF following the latest developments surrounding Infantino’s leadership of world football and FIFA’s commitment to governance and due process.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe said the confederation welcomed and endorsed the joint update issued by Infantino and FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström.

“CAF welcomes and endorses the ‘Joint Update’ by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Secretary General Mattias Grafström,” Motsepe said.

He stressed that good governance, due process and transparency remained fundamental principles for African football and institutions across the continent.

“For us in Africa, adherence to governance, due process and transparency is crucial and non-negotiable, as this is the practice and conduct we expect from our governments, business and other institutions and organisations,” Motsepe said.

The CAF president said the confederation would continue working with FIFA, its member associations, other continental confederations and football stakeholders to uphold those principles.

“We are committed to continue working together with FIFA, its member associations, other football confederations and stakeholders to safeguard and adhere to governance, due process, and transparency,” he added.

Motsepe also said CAF would maintain its focus on developing football at the grassroots level, particularly through investment in players and technical personnel.

“CAF will also continue to focus on developing our boys and girls football players, coaches and trainers,” he said.

A spokesperson for the continental football governing body confirmed that CAF’s Executive Committee had also unanimously renewed its backing for Infantino.

“The CAF EXCO [Executive Committee] also unanimously reconfirmed its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino and thanked him for his support for African Football over the years,” the spokesperson said.

The position reinforces CAF’s continued alignment with FIFA under Infantino, while the African confederation emphasises governance, transparency and the development of football as key priorities for its engagement with the global governing body.
