Afrobeats star, Davido and former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad on Thursday engaged in a war of words on X.

Daily Sun reports that the disagreement started over the contentious freezing of the Osun State Government’s bank account by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Davido had taken to X to reveal he was present when President Bola Tinubu called Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke over the matter.

“I was there live! I witnessed history,” Davido, the governor’s nephew, wrote.

Reacting, Ahmad urged Davido to accept the result of the forthcoming governorship election, in which his uncle is the Accord Party candidate, with equanimity irrespective of its outcome.

“This tweet is bookmarked. It will serve as a reference for future events. I know you will come back here to lament if the August 15 results don’t go your way,” Ahmad posted.

However, Davido mocked Ahmad, a former Special Assistant on New Media to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, over his failed House of Representatives bid.

“U got 16 votes bro in primaries,” the Grammy nominee wrote accompanied by a laughing emoji.

Responding, Ahmad reminded Davido that he had also been nominated several times for the Grammys and failed to win it.

Ahmad, who is National Director, Media Monitoring & Rapid Response of the City Boy Movement, said, “We have talked enough about the number of votes I got in my primaries. Can we now talk about the number of Grammy Awards you have won from your five nominations, David? Fair is fair.”

Information available on the Grammy website shows the Unavailable crooner has earned 5 Grammy nominations in his career, starting with three major nods in 2024, followed by nominations in 2025 and 2026.

Hitting back, Davido said success was not to be measured by one award.

The Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund described the ex-presidential aide as a small boy who stumbled into politics.

He said, “You measure success by one award. I measure it by sold-out arenas, billions of streams, global influence, and people singing my songs across continents.

“You had government backing and still couldn’t convince enough people to back you in your small constituency..
