The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has expressed confidence in the continent’s representatives ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, where Africa will field a record 10 teams for the first time in the tournament’s history.
The expanded tournament, set to be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico, marks a significant milestone for African football, reflecting the continent’s growing strength and global competitiveness.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe hailed the achievement, describing it as a testament to the steady development of the game across Africa.
“CAF and African football are proud of the 10 countries that will be representing the continent at the FIFA World Cup 2026. It is the first time in the history of the tournament that Africa will be represented by 10 countries,” Motsepe said.

He added that the increased slots underscore the progress made by African football on the global stage and expressed optimism about the teams’ chances.
“We are confident that the African national teams will make us proud and that an African nation can emerge champions of the FIFA World Cup,” he stated.
Motsepe also congratulated the Democratic Republic of Congo following their victory over Jamaica, a result that secured their qualification for the global showpiece.
