The executive leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Cross River, has passed a vote of confidence on the Chairman of the party in the state, Mr Alphonsus Eba.
This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Calabar by Mr Erasmus Ekpang, Publicity Secretary of APC in the state.
Ekpang said that the vote of confidence was passed on the Chairman during a meeting that was convene by the state Deputy Chairman, Mr Eka Williams.
He said that the state executive of the party hailed the enormous effort the Chairman has put in place which has earned an overwhelming victory for the APC in the state in the just concluded elections.
The Publicity Secretary said that the executive of the party also commended the Chairman for sustaining the unity of the party with his peace, love, unity and growth mantra.
“The call for the Chairman to resign by a notable member of the party was ill-timed and without recourse to his sterling leadership and performance which has kept the party afloat.
“The Chairman led the party to a 90 per cent victory in the 2023 general elections within the two years of joining the APC and being saddled with the responsibility of leading the party in the state.
“The Chairman is a man of strategies and that is why he led APC in Cross River to a landslide victory for the first time since the party has been contesting in previous elections.
“We all can attest to the fact that he supervised a transparent party primaries that brought the most popular candidates on board, one of them is Sen. Bassey Ou, the governor-elect,” he said.
Erasmus said that the Chairman is also a man of justice who stood firmly as a strong advocate of the ‘back to Southern Senatorial zone’ movement for the governorship position.
“The vote of confidence passed on him by the state’s executive and working committee is not far-fetched because he is a strong voice of the party and has proven his unalloyed commitment to the wellbeing of the party.
“We have to remain glued together and ensure he has the best support to forge ahead; the expectations of the opposition that the party will implode must be dashed to pieces.
“We urge members of our great party to remain steadfast and supportive of the Alphonsus Eba-led executive.
“The party assures every member of a level playing ground and believes in the spirit of unity and progress.
“The state Chairman delivered his polling unit, Echumofana Ward for the APC and supervised the overwhelming victory of the party at the just concluded general election contrary to news making the rounds,” he said.
