Tragedy was averted as the walkway decking of the newly constructed Faculty of the Humanities of the Imo State University collapsed early hours of Thursday.
Although , nobody was hurt as students were yet to resume academic sessions as a result of the industrial action embarked by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities ( ASUU).
The building is one of those recently built through the TETFUND financing to up grade the infrastructural deficits of the state own University.
When Our Correspondent the institution it was discovered that the decking of the Walkway had totally collapsed.
Few of the staff who spoke to our correspondent expressed shock over the collapsed structure.
The Dean, Faculty of Humanities, IProf.Uchenna Martins Nwankwo, described the incident as unfortunate, even as he thanked God that no life was lost.
He said : ”As you can see, it is not the whole building that collapsed rather a part of the structure. The staircase collapsed and no life was lost as it happened in the early hours of today . We are looking forward to urgently fixing the collapsed part of the building”.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer, Nze Ralph Njoku, when contacted said he is yet to be briefed properly on the actual cause of the building collapse.
