Rescue teams from Anambra State, local government officials, and the Red Cross Society worked to rescue the trapped workers, who were still speaking from under the rubble.

Rescue workers used an excavator to remove iron and debris under the watch of security operatives, the COREN task force, and state government officials.

The Chairman of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) Technical/Expatriate Committee of Anambra State, Mr Victor Metu, an engineer, spoke at the site of the collapsed building. He said the engineering team handling the project was qualified and registered.

He said the cause of the building collapse might be substandard materials, stressing that society cannot be certain of the main cause of the collapse until a full investigation and analysis are done.
