From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja President Mohammed Buhari and former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd) met on Tuesday in the Presidential Villa.
After the meeting, Gowon told State House correspondents, that he was in the Presidential Villa to welcome President Buhari back to the country and to thank him for calling to condole with him over his sister’s death.
According to him, Buhari’s call to him while he was on medical vacation in London, helped to assure him and raise the hope of Nigerians who were concerned about his health. President Buhari on March 6 called to commiserate with Gowon, over the passing away of his younger sister, Kande Martha Audu.
The former Head of State, told newsmen that he also encouraged Buhari to keep on the good work and pray that God will continue to strengthen him to work for the good of Nigerians.
He said, ”Let me tell you the honest truth, my coming here today is to thank and welcome Mr. President back from his health issues and problems and to thank God for what He has done for him to have his health back and return to work.
“The other thing also is to thank him very much indeed for ringing me from London commiserate with me on the death my sister. This was really very gracious of him, I should have rang to speak to him but of course since I know that he was in hospital I could not do that. But when he called to condole me on my sister’s death I was very touched and that also helped Nigerians to rejoice especially those who were sending all those very unfortunate message about him and about whatever it is.
