In the run-up to the 2027 general election, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Chairman, Senator David Mark, has charged the party’s gubernatorial candidates to avoid empty promises and hate speech in their campaigns.
Mark, according to a statement by the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, gave the charge at a consultative meeting with the governorship candidates on Monday in Abuja.
The ADC chairman implored the gubernatorial candidates to avoid making any promise they cannot keep when voted into office, noting that doing so could erode the credibility of the opposition party. Furthermore, he urged them to familiarise themselves with the ADC manifesto, as well as the “Orange Book”, which encapsulates the opposition party’s Governance and Ethical Principles.
According to him, “We are ADC. Our campaign must reflect the kind of country that we would like to build. Avoid hate speech, ethnic or religious profiling. We cannot be associated with violence in whatever form. Unlike the ruling party and the President, ADC does not believe that all is fair in politics.”
The candidates took turns expressing their gratitude to the party for granting them the platform to contest the coming election, while expressing delight that the ADC and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, have decided to anchor the party’s 2027 campaign on bringing down the cost of living, especially by bringing back the fuel subsidy to reduce the price of fuel.
Consequently, they pledged their loyalty to the party and promised to make the party proud by winning their elections.
