The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang as the winner of the March 18, 2023 Governorship election.
Declaring the results on Monday in Jos, INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Idris Amali who made the declaration said the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Barr. Caleb Mutfwang polled 525,299 votes to win the keenly contested election.
Prof. Amali, who is the Vice Chancellor Federal University Lafiya, said the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda took second position with 481,370 votes while his Labour Party counterparts, Dr. Patrick Dakum scored 60,310 votes.
The PDP candidate, Mutfwang beat APC candidate, Dr. Yilwatda with a margin of 43,929 votes.
However, the PDP candidate won in 10 Local Government Areas of the state which includes; Barkin-Ladi, Riyom, Jos South, Bassa, Mangu, Bokkos, Mikang, Quan’anpan, Langtang North and Langtang South.
His closest rival, Dr. Yilwatda of the APC won in 7 Local Government Areas which includes Jos East, Jos North, Kanke, Kanam, Pankshin, Shendam and Wase LGA respectively.
The total voter register stand at 2789528; total Accredited voter; 1099860; total valid vote, 1080425; total rejected votes, 11181 and the total vote cast is 1091606 votes.
