Ahead of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly election, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Dozie Madu, has escaped death by the whiskers after gunmen, numbering over 80 attacked his country home, Owerre Ezukala Orumba South LGA of the state on Friday night.

The statement made available to newsmen by his younger brother, Nonso Madu, claimed that the number of casualties are yet to be ascertained as the telephone numbers of some of his security details are yet to connect.

The statement further explained that though he narrowly escaped with his bullet proof car riddled with bullet and through the dogged efforts of combined team of Department of State Service (DSS) and the police, his country home was however set ablaze by the unknown gunmen.

According to statement; “there has been an attack on an APC chieftain, Edozie Madu in his home town, Owerri Ezekala Orumba South LGA of Anambra State by unknown gunmen.

“Madu and his staff including security details were attacked on Friday night while in his village home as he was making final preparations for the presidential election.

“He was able to escape unhurt despite his house being surrounded by over 80 heavily armed gunmen. The security details attached to the politician after holding their ground for 30 minutes had to brave their way out of the compound under heavy gunfire with his bullet proof vehicle and others in the convoy riddled with bullets.

“The former House of Representatives member, who was able to communicate with his family after the attack said his life was spared by the gallantry of the combined team of DSS and police attached to him, who had to shoot their way out of his compound.

“The very spot he was seating on his bullet proof vehicle was riddled with bullets. As at this moment, the number of casualties on his entourage has not been able to be ascertained as the phone numbers of some police men attached to him cannot be reached,” the statement read.

Explaining further, the statement disclosed that; “the gunmen numbering about 80 had proceeded to set his palatial home ablaze. It will be recalled that the unknown gunmen have for some months now set up their camps in Owerre Ezukala Orumba South LGA from where they carry out most of their nefarious activities.

“Madu called on the Inspector General of Police and all other security agencies to do the needful to dislodge these criminals from the community and secure the lives and property of the indigenes of the community,” he appealed.
