After experiencing a minor setback in his rehabilitation and subsequently being ruled out of Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-0 win against Oberhausen in a test match at the Ulrich Haberland Stadium, as well as Friday’s first Bundesliga game of 2025, Victor Boniface has now started training individually.

The Super Eagles striker sustained a thigh injury in mid-November during an Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Rwanda (1-2) while playing for the Nigerian national team. As a result, he was only able to participate in the first ten games of the season.

Initially, following the first examinations, there was hope that Boniface would be able to play in the first half of the 2024 season. However, coach Xabi Alonso decided to hold Boniface out during the final stretch of the year to ensure he is fit for the team’s challenges in the new year.

While his teammates began preparing for the Bundesliga clash with Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, the Nigerian striker engaged in a brief individual training session.

According to BILD, Boniface did not train with the ball but instead completed a few laps.

The tabloid further reported that Boniface, who has been unavailable to the Werkself for a month and a half due to his thigh muscle injury, currently has no specific timeline for when he will be considered an option to return to the squad.
