Following incessant attacks by members of the Boko-Haram terrorists group on the University of Maiduguri, the Nigerian Army, on Tuesday, vowed to provide security for the institution.
Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General Ibrahim Manu Yusufu, who gave the assurance when he visted the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ibrahim Yusuf Abubarka Njodi, said terrorists attack on the institution would soon be soon thing of the past.
Gen Yusufu, who was accompanied on the visit by commanders and some principal staff officers from Headquarters 7 Division, Maiduguri, said the army would provide adequate security for the university community, even as he commiserated with the University community who have suffered over six attacks by terrorists that resulted in the loss of lives.
Gen. Yusufu, who commended authorities of the institutions for not buying into the tricks of the terrorists to close down the institutions after several tracks, equally commended the staff and the Vice Chancellor for holding forth during the trial period.
He said that closing the university owe to the attacks would given the terrorists an upper hand and cheap publicity.
While calling for cooperation between the university, the military and the security agencies the GOC, also solicited for relevant information that will aid them in the stemming the tide of suicide bomb attacks.
Welcoming the GOC, to the university community, the Vice Chancellor assured him of the University’s support in the ongoing war against insurgency.
He attributed the relative peace being enjoyed within the University after of high spate of suicide bombings to the doggedness of personnel of the Nigerian Army who he said have displayed professional competence in securing not only the University, but the entire Borno State.
