Fashion Powerhouse, Bluepearl Services International, organizers of African Fashion and Design Week™ New York, Los Angeles, Nairobi and Lagos has announced that the 10th Anniversary Edition of the African Fashion and Design Week will take place in Lagos, Nigeria on October 14th and 15th at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
For the past ten years, Bluepearl Services International through African Fashion and Design Week, has continuously showcased Africa in the most positive light through the creativity of her fashion designers, established platforms for networking and celebrating each other in the African Fashion Industry.
According to the founder, Queen Gold Sekibo, the aim of the event is to promote new and emerging designers in Africa.
“Africa Fashion and Design Week started out of passion to showcase Africa in the most positive light. As a fashion lover, I do a lot in New York. For me, everytime I meet designers and producers backstage, they are always excited that I’m from Africa. I have to tell them that there are different other countries, different cultures, vast people and very creative minds. This was what birthed Africa Fashion and Design Week. I wanted to tell our story in a different way, show the creativity of African designers across the world, a platform where we could show our talent, network and celebrate each other in the fashion industry.
“Our first runway show was in Port Harcourt and we have evolved over the years. From Lagos, we have been to Los Angeles, New York, Nairobi and Accra. We have had the best of names in the Africa Fashion industry showcase on our runway. From Gavin Rajah, to Mustafa Hassanali, the list is long. They have all been on the runway of Africa Fashion and Design Week.”
“We want to inspire these designers because we know that fashion contributes a lot to the value chain of our country. We will be showcasing designers across 11 African countries this year.
“We will have supermodels from Africa and the UK and designers within Nigeria.
For the Business of Fashion seminar, we will be having speakers from America, Kenya, Ghana and all of our major countries where Africa Fashion and Design Week has been held.
Each year, African Fashion and Design Week™ draws international stockists, visitors, fashion entrepreneurs, super models, industry professionals, local and international media to preview the looks that will define the continent’s fashion trends.
AFDW 2022 under the theme “Imagine, Inspire, Ignite”, will showcase the magnificence of Africa through the creativity of her fashion designers as well as the best in international fashion and design. It will feature a runway show, The African Icon of Hope Awards, The Business of Fashion Seminar and a Trade exhibition.
