A businessman, Chiebonam Eze, also known as Power-Autos, has been stabbed to death on the premises of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) after attending an on-campus event.
It was learnt that Eze, who was not a student, attended a bonfire night party organised by the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Arts on Friday night.
Witnesses said Eze’s Mercedes-Benz GLK sport utility vehicle accidentally scratched another man’s vehicle, which caused a rift between both car owners.
Campus security operatives reportedly intervened, but this failed to calm frayed nerves, and the rift soon escalated.
When Eze and some friends attempted to leave the venue, his car was blocked by three cars on campus.
His friends were said to have fled the scene, but the businessman alighted to assess the situation and was stabbed in the neck, leading to his instant death.
The attackers fled the scene but abandoned one of their cars, which ran into a nearby ditch.
It was gathered that four of the suspects have been arrested, handed over to the police, and are now cooling off at the Enugu State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Confirming the development, Acting Public Relations Officer of UNN, Sunday Agha disclosed that the victim was not a student but was invited to attend the event.
He added that the university would soon release an official statement on the matter.
