…Officially assumes diplomatic duties
High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of South Africa, Ambassador Femi Fani-Kayode, on Friday formally presented copies of his Letters of Credence to Mr Clayson Monyela, Deputy Director-General, Public Diplomacy, and Acting Chief of State Protocol, at the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO).

The presentation marks an important diplomatic milestone, signifying the formal commencement of Ambassador Fani-Kayode’s diplomatic functions and his assumption of duties as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa with effect from Friday October 30, 2026.
Following the presentation, Ambassador Fani-Kayode also met with Ambassador Seboga, Deputy Director-General of DIRCO, in his office, as part of his initial diplomatic engagements with senior South African government officials.
The presentation of copies of his Letters of Credence precedes the ceremonial presentation of his Letters of Credence to His Excellency, President Cyril Ramaphosa of the Republic of South Africa, which will take place in a few days time.
Chief Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, had earlier been cleared by the Nigeria Senate following his nomination as ambassador, alongside other eminent Nigerians. He was posted to South Africa where he has now resumed diplomatic duties.
