Ekiti State Government has dismissed allegations by African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, linking it to his reported attack at a food outlet in Ado-Ekiti on Friday.
The government said it would have ordinarily ignored the claim given Sowore’s history of unfounded claims and media attacks over the past four years, but needed to set the record straight.
While organisers of the Ikogosi Marathon and the Police Command have issued statements on the incident, the government said questions remain about Sowore’s visit and motive, leaving fact-finding to appropriate authorities.
“It is particularly absurd to suggest that a state widely recognised for the remarkably peaceful conduct of its recent governorship campaign and election would resort to harassing an inconsequential presidential candidate,” the statement said.
The government totally dissociates itself from the incident and called on police to thoroughly investigate and bring those responsible to justice. It reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining Ekiti’s reputation as one of the most peaceful states, anchored on rule of law, democratic principles and tolerance.
