Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates appeared before a United States congressional panel on Wednesday as lawmakers intensified their investigation into his past association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The closed-door session before the House Oversight Committee forms part of a broader review of documents related to Epstein and his network of high-profile contacts. Lawmakers are seeking clarity on the nature and extent of Gates’ interactions with Epstein following the release of Justice Department records that renewed public interest in their relationship.

Gates has not been accused of any criminal wrongdoing. However, records show that he met Epstein several times between 2011 and 2014, years after Epstein’s 2008 conviction. The billionaire philanthropist has repeatedly described those meetings as a “mistake” and expressed regret over the association.

According to reports, Gates voluntarily agreed to testify and said he hopes his cooperation will assist efforts aimed at delivering justice for Epstein’s victims. The committee is expected to review documents, communications and meetings linked to the relationship as part of its ongoing inquiry.

The hearing marks another high-profile chapter in the long-running Epstein investigation, which continues to draw scrutiny over the connections between the disgraced financier and influential figures across business, politics and philanthropy.
