Mr Osaze Ebueku, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, has boldly announced the launch of the Big Sports Dialogue 1.0: Reshaping Nigeria’s Sports Ecosystem, a groundbreaking conference aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s sports industry as a driving force for national development.

Scheduled for November 24, 2025, in Lagos, this pivotal event will convene key stakeholders across the sports value chain, including policymakers, investors, administrators, and media representatives, to develop a sustainable and actionable roadmap for the future of Nigerian sports.

During a press briefing, Mr Ebueku underscored the imperative of transforming Nigeria’s immense sporting potential into tangible economic benefits.

“On November 24, Lagos will host the most significant gathering of sports leaders, policymakers, investors, and media figures in Nigeria’s history,” he declared. “Big Sports Dialogue 1.0 is not just a conference; it’s a powerful movement. With the backing of the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE), we are steadfast in our mission to make sports a catalyst for growth, job creation, and national pride.”

Ebueku pointed out Nigeria’s vast sporting potential while expressing concern over its meagre contribution to the national economy. “From the Super Eagles’ electrifying performances to our athletes’ global victories, Nigeria’s talent and passion are unmistakable. Yet, sports accounted for merely 0.33% of GDP in 2021, down from 0.31% in 2020—a glaring indication of untapped potential. Today marks the beginning of a transformative journey.”

The dialogue will target four critical areas for immediate action:Policy Reform: Development of a National Sports Blueprint to tackle infrastructure, funding, and governance deficiencies.

Private Sector Collaboration: Cultivating robust partnerships between investors and innovators to elevate grassroots and elite sports development.

Athlete-Centered Development: Prioritizing athlete welfare and creating post-career opportunities.

Media Engagement: Elevating sports achievements, addressing challenges, and inspiring a new generation.

High-profile speakers confirmed for the event include NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko, NSC Director-General Bukola Olopade, former NFF President Amaju Pinnick, former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, and esteemed journalist Rufai Oseni.

Additional organisers comprise Jeremiah Obuninta, veteran sports journalist Sylvanus Ofekun, and broadcaster Aron Akerejola.

Big Sports Dialogue 1.0 is poised to be a turning point for Nigeria’s sports industry, charting the course for reforms that will unleash its full economic and social potential.
