From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri
Bianca Ojukwu, wife of the late Biafra leader Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, has urged Igbo people to remain calm and peaceful following the life imprisonment sentence of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Speaking at the 14th Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Memorial Day Celebration in Owerri, Mrs Ojukwu emphasised the importance of dialogue and peaceful means to resolve the issue, citing her late husband’s experience and release from exile through diplomatic efforts.
“We should not be angry, and it is not an issue to resolve with knives, guns or fighting one another,” she said. “This is the time to come to a round table and discuss.”

Mrs Ojukwu also lamented the lack of coordination among Igbo leaders, stating that South-East governors and traditional rulers often work individually rather than collectively. She urged Igbo people to unite and work towards reclaiming their land and promoting peace.
The minister also expressed concern over the declining use of the Igbo language among young people and urged parents to teach their children their mother tongue to preserve cultural identity.
Meanwhile, she eulogised Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, founder of the Biafra Independent Movement (BIM) and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), for single-handedly hosting the Ojukwu memorial day.
